Meeting of Confucius Institutes in Mád

On 11 and 12 November the Confucius Institute of the Faculty of Humanities, University of Debrecen organised a national conference.

On 11 and 12 November the Confucius Institute of the Faculty of Humanities (FH), University of Debrecen (UD) organised a national conference at the Mád Wine Academy of UD on Teaching Chinese in Hungary after the Pandemic.

Besides the University of Debrecen, the host of the event, all the other Confucius Institutes in Hungary were represented from Loránd Eötvös University, Budapest, the University of Miskolc, the University of Pécs and the University of Szeged.

Several presentations were delivered in English and Chinese among others about traditional Chinese characters and current topics such as the integration of information technology and videos into the teaching of Chinese.

While learning about new methods and tools of education, the new thematic language book titled Not Just Nursery Rhymes… published by the Confucius Institute, UD was also introduced to the participants.

”We are honoured to have the opportunity to organize a substantial conference at such a wonderful place with the participation of the partner institutes and are glad that the event was also praised by His Excellency Qi Dayu, Ambassador of China to Hungary” – reported Dr. Pál Csontos, the Hungarian director of the Confucius Institute, FH, UD.

Other related events included the opening of an exhibition of colorful ink paintings depicting Chinese zodiac signs by Dr. Attila Mátyás Petró radiologist (Medical Imaging Clinic, UD Clinical Center) and a display of a collection of Chinese calligraphies by Cui Xianjun, Chinese Director of the Debrecen Confucius Institute and his students.

Besides professional lectures a Chinese clothing, dance and Guzheng show was also performed by the Union of Chinese Students in Debrecen.

At the two-day conference a wine specialty bottled for this occasion and named Confucius Furmintus Debrecenis was also presented with the contribution of the Mád Wine Academy of UD, providing the professional and scientific background, as well as Zsirai Winery.

Participants also agreed that in 2023 the Confucius Institute at the University of Miskolc will take up the baton and host the next annual conference.
